    Primary Purpose of Position

    ? Develop and lead marketing, communication, media management, public relations and branding strategies and activities to strengthen the agency‟s

    corporate profile and to support emergency incidents and the management of public safety issues

    ? Participate in an after-hours on-call media liaison roster for the sector

    ? Provide accurate and timely information to the public and media regarding incidents and activities throughout the State ? Manage public affairs and media issues affecting the nominated emergency service organisation and, when required, the sector ? Provide high quality communications consultancy and advisory services to the emergency service organisation ? Contribute to the activities of the Public Affairs Unit

    ? Provide advice and direction to media officers, project officers and volunteers in the provision of communications activities ? Contribute to communications policy reviews across the sector

    ? Undertake communications project work and activities on behalf of the emergency services

    ? Represent the ESOs at whole of government emergency planning and communications forums

    ? Provide key stakeholders with quality communications advice, programs, tools and information

    ? Contribute to relevant strategic planning processes

Special Conditions

    ? Participation in an after-hours on-call roster system

    ? Must be prepared to undertake an induction program which will include basic fire fighting and rescue training ? In emergency situations may be required to undertake operational support duties appropriate to level of competence ? Must wear uniform/personal protective clothing as directed by manager

    The South Australian Fire and Emergency Services Commission provides support services to the Emergency Service Organisations (“ESOs”) to ensure that the Government‟s community safety outcomes for emergency prevention and management are met.

    The Senior Public Affairs Officers are part of the Public Affairs Unit and will be allocated the prime responsibility for one of three ESOs. They will be required to provide back-up for the other two Senior Public Affairs Officers during high operational periods and also undertaken projects that may have whole of sector application and significance.

    The Public Affairs Unit provides service and advice to the SAFECOM executive and the fire and emergency services sector (Metropolitan Fire Service, Country Fire Service and State Emergency Service) and the Minister‟s Office.
