    Dream Car Project

ALL DUE FRIDAY, MAY 11, 2007

    Introduction

There are many things you will have to do in your life that no one will teach you

or give you advice about buying a car is usually one of them. Most people walk into a

car dealership not knowing what to expect. They have no idea of the normal price for a

particular car, what constitutes a good deal, what kind of interest rate to expect, or what

the monthly payments should be. Any practice you can get at these skills before you

walk in the door of the dealership will probably save you money in the long run. While

we are working with your “dream” cars rather than a practical car you might one day

actually own, there is still benefit in the exercise.

Overview

There are four parts to this project:

? Gathering information Record the information you gather for four cars on the

    sheet titled “Dream Car Data”

? Calculating the long-term cost of purchasing the cars Use the Yahoo! Autos

Finance Calculator to calculate the expected monthly payments and then record

this information on the sheet titled “Long-Term Cost of Purchasing Your Dream

Car”. This sheet will then guide you through the process of discover how much

you might really pay for your car.

? Display Using a poster or large paper, display the information you gathered on

one of your cars. You will create the poster to mimic a car advertisement, with

the exception that it tells the customer the long-term cost of the purchase.

? Poll You will take an online poll to give feedback on the project.

Instructions for “Dream Car Data”

? Log in to IPS Online using your ID number as your username and your full birth

    date as your password.

o For example, John Smith with ID number 12345 who was born on July 4,

    1993 would enter the following:

    Username: 12345

    Password: 07/04/1993

? Select this class “PRE ALGEBRA 2” – from your course list.

? Click the tab at the top of this page labeled “In Touch”.

? Scroll to the bottom of the page where you will see a

section called “In Touch Links”. Find the link for the Bridge Algebra I T. Ahlgren Spring 2007

Yahoo! Autos Home Page, and click on it. This will take you to the homepage

for Yahoo! Autos, which is a fantastic website to use for researching various new

    cars.

? This page, the Yahoo! Autos Home Page, has a

section on new cars. You must select four

different cars to research for this project.

On the form shown at right, select the make and

model of each car you wish to research and then

    press “Go”.

? Now you will be at the home page for a certain

make and model of car. There will be a list of the

different types available. Select one, and an

information sheet will come up for that particular

car. This is the information that you will record

on the “Dream Car Data” sheet.

? Don’t forget that you also need to print a picture

for each of your cars. The best way to do this is

to right click on the picture of the car. A menu will pop up that says “View

Image” at the top. Select this to bring up a page with only the picture. Then click

on File and Print to print your picture. This will keep ink from being wasted by

printing the rest of the page.
