    Application Form

The South East Sustainable Energy Partnership (SESEP) is a partnership of regional

    and sub-regional organisations across the South East. Our mission is to develop

    and implement regional policy and targets for sustainable energy, to share best

    practice and support projects to meet the region’s targets as a contribution to Energy

    White Paper objectives.

The South East Renewable Energy Awards aim to recognise and celebrate those

    organisations and projects in the region that are promoting the benefits and

    opportunities of renewable energy and making a contribution to the region’s energy

    targets.

Awards

    There will be up to seven overall award winners in the categories outlined in the

    attached Guidance Note for Applicants. Depending on the strength of applications

    received, other projects may be highly commended.

Applications

    Applications are invited from eligible organisations (please see Guidance Note)

    either for the organisation as a whole showing Commitment to Renewable Energy

    in their activities or for Individual Projects.

Applicants should have regard to the criteria in the attached Guidance Note in

    making their nominations. However, applications are not required to be submitted

    for any particular category or to address every criteria listed. The judges will be

    responsible for allocating the best fit from those applications received.

Awards Timetable

    Entry Deadline : 17 October 2005 Assessment : 17-31 October 2005 Awards Presentation : 10 November 2005

Judging

    Applications with be assessed by a panel drawn from the Government Office for the

    South East (GOSE), the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) and the

    South East England Regional Assembly.

Prizes

    A Presentation Dinner will be held on the evening of 10 November 2005 following the

    first day of the South East Renewable Energy Conference, at the River Centre,

    Tonbridge, Kent. Winners and runners up will receive trophies and certificates.

    They will also be publicised as regional best practice and may use the awards

    material in their own corporate publicity

    Renewable Energy Awards for the South East 2005

    Guidance Note for Applicants

The 2005 South East Renewable Energy Awards will be made to organisations that

    can demonstrate a contribution to the development of renewable energy in the

    region. This can be for the generation, use or promotion of either renewable heat or

    electricity.

Awards will be made in two overall categories. The first demonstrating commitment

    to renewable energy; and the second for individual projects in the region :

1) Commitment to Renewable Energy

There will be four winners one representing each of the following :

    a) Local Authority Commitment

    b) Community Engagement and Education

    c) Business Practice

    d) Innovation

The awards will be made to those organisations showing, in the judge’s opinion, the

    greatest commitment to, or the greatest improvement in the promotion of renewable

    energy in their local area or organisation, particularly in the last 12 months.

Organisations must be based within the South East of England region.

The judges will be looking for organisations that demonstrate at least some of the

    criteria listed below under each category.

    a) Local Authority Commitment

    Eligibility : District, Unitary or County Council

    o A reduction in the use of energy resources in their own estate through the

    incorporation of renewable energy technologies in their own offices or

    buildings within their direct control;

    o Local procurement policies which encourage the procurement of green

    energy;

    o Promotion of the benefits and opportunities of renewable energy to their local

    community;

    o Support for local renewable energy projects and initiatives, including support

    for local schools or community groups;

    o Proactive energy policies in their Local Plan Documents;

    o Partnership working and strong relationships with the energy agencies and

    other relevant organisations in the local area and with other partners in the

    region.

    b) Community Engagement and Education

    Eligibility : Community Organisation, Not for Profit/Charity or NGO

o Successful incorporation of renewable energy technologies into their own

    developments or the local community as a whole, with an emphasis on public

    engagement and awareness raising;

    o Promotion of the benefits and opportunities of renewable energy to their local

    community;

    o Partnership working and building strong local relationships with the

    community, energy agencies and other relevant organisations in the area in

    which they operate and beyond;

    o Renewable energy education programmes.

    c) Business Practice

    Eligibility : Commercial Organizations

    Either

    o A reduction in the use of energy resources in their own business through the

    incorporation of renewable energy technologies;

    o A commitment to energy management in their business practices;

    o Training, awareness and commitment of staff to sustainable energy;

    Or

    o Best practice in the successful completion of a commercial renewable energy

    scheme.

    d) Innovation

    Eligibility : Commercial and non-commercial organizations

    Either

    o Advancement in renewable energy technology;

    Or

    o Use of innovative technology;

    Or

    o Innovative approach to the incorporation of renewable energy technologies

    into development.

    2) Individual Projects

    Awards will be made to organisations responsible (or at least the lead partner) for

    individual projects in the following categories :

a) Buildings Integrated Renewables

    b) Wind and Water

    c) Biomass (including development of supply chain)

The awards will be made for projects which have been completed, or at least

    reached an advanced stage, in the last 12 months.

Organisations will be eligible from all sectors (public, private and community).

Projects must be sited within the South East of England region.

    a) Buildings Integrated Renewables

    o Successful integration of renewable energy technologies into a new or

    existing development;

    o Demonstrable electricity and/or heat generation from renewable sources;

    o Benefits to householders, tenants or other occupants;

    o Benefits to the wider community, including public awareness raising;

    o Good practice in relation to planning and building regulations processes.

    b) Wind and Water

    o Successful completion, or at least consent for a wind or water energy scheme;

    o Demonstrable electricity and/or heat generation from wind or water sources;

    o Benefits to the local community, including public awareness raising;

    o Good practice in relation to local planning processes.

    c) Biomass

    o Successful completion, or at least consent for a biomass scheme;

    o Demonstrable electricity and/or heat generation from biomass sources;

    o Development of supply chain and local market for biomass resource, including

    supporting local suppliers;

    o Benefits to the local community, including public awareness raising;

    o Consideration of local transport and other infrastructure issues;

    o Good practice in relation to local planning processes, if relevant.
