Clark County Christian School Modesty Requirements

    2008-2009 School Year

For the 2008-2009 school year, CCCS is adopting modesty requirements as the required dress code. The following is a list describing what is and is not acceptable. However, this list is NOT all inclusive. The principal will have the final say as to whether a child’s dress is or is not acceptable. Please use your best judgment before

sending your child to school. In changing our dress code, we appreciate your

understanding and support of these rules.

Three main principles dominate our philosophical position with regard to student dress. The modesty requirement is not intended to measure spirituality, but to serve as a tool to accomplish these specific goals: (1) Create an atmosphere free from

distractions; (2) Build character that exhibits self-discipline, modesty, cleanliness, and submission; (3) Inspire the making of responsible choices. By

our dress we represent the feelings and thoughts of our hearts. Therefore, our clothing should represent our desire to please God and move toward true maturity. We do expect our families to support these policies even though there may be some

    areas of disagreement.

GENERAL GUIDELINES

    1. Discretion is left up to the principal as to whether or not dress is appropriate.

    2. Jackets/coats are not to be worn in the classroom. Lockers will be provided

    for these items.

    3. Tennis shoes must always be worn on gym days.

    4. Any type of sweat pant or sweat shirt is unacceptable. Only a CCCS sweat

    shirt will be acceptable.

    5. Neatness is a requirement. Outfits that are sloppy, untidy or unkempt will not

    be allowed.

    6. Refer to the handbook for discipline procedures regarding inappropriate dress.

PANTS/SHORTS

Jeans, cargo, carpenter, capri, gaucho, shorts and dress/khaki pants are all acceptable. Jogging suits are acceptable. Sweatpants are NOT acceptable. A jogging suit made of sweat pant material is not acceptable. Please follow the guidelines below:

    1. All pants must hang at waist level.

    2. Belts are NOT required unless the pants are hanging below the waist.

    3. There are to be no holes in the pants.

    4. There are to be no derogatory sayings/words/pictures on the pants.

    5. Shorts must be no more than two inches above the knee.

6. The following guidelines pertain to leggings:

    a. Leggings made of tight-fitting material (i.e. spandex) may be worn

with dresses/skirts only. If they resemble tights in any way, they may

not be worn with longer shirts.

    b. Leggings made of looser-fitting material (i.e. knit) may be worn with

dresses/skirts and longer shirts. The shirt must hang at thigh level to

be appropriate. However, if the knit material is tight-fitting, it will

not be allowed with longer shirts.

    c. If leggings are worn, the overall outfit should not be unkempt of

    untidy. Neatness is required.

This list is NOT all inclusive. Discretion is left up to the principal as to

whether or not dress is appropriate.

    SKIRTS/DRESSES

Skirts and dresses are acceptable in any material, as long as the material is loose fitting. 1. They should be no shorter than 2 inches above the knee.

    2. If leggings are to be worn with the skirt or dress, please follow the guidelines

    above for leggings.

    3. Spaghetti strap dresses or tank top dresses are not acceptable. An appropriate

shirt may be worn over this type of dress, but may not be removed.

This list is NOT all inclusive. Discretion is left up to the principal as to

whether or not dress is appropriate.

    SHIRTS

Polos, sweaters, button-downs, blouses, and solid-colored t-shirts are all acceptable. Only CCCS sweatshirts are acceptable. Other sweatshirts are not allowed. Please follow the guidelines below.

    1. There are to be no sayings/words/pictures on the shirt, regardless of its

    message.

    2. Shirts must not hang below the pockets of the pants (unless it’s a blouse

intended to). If shirts hang lower than the pockets, that student will be

    required to tuck in.

    3. If button-downs are worn, they will always be tucked in, regardless of the

    length.

    4. Spaghetti straps, tank tops, or halter tops will not be acceptable. A shirt may

be worn over another shirt that is a tank top or has spaghetti straps.

This list is NOT all inclusive. Discretion is left up to the principal as to

whether or not dress is appropriate.

Most shoes are acceptable at CCCS. The following are exceptions and guidelines. 1. Flip flops are not acceptable.

    2. “Wheelies” are not acceptable (shoes with the roller blade wheel in the sole of

    the shoe).

    3. Clogs and other “backless” shoes are acceptable. They may not have a heel

    higher than 1 inch.

    4. Dress shoes may not have a heel higher than 1 inch.

    5. Tennis shoes must always be worn on gym days. Students may bring tennis

shoes to change into on gym days, but must have those shoes on before gym

class begins. Students not wearing tennis shoes for gym class will not be

allowed to participate. This may affect their PE grade.

This list is NOT all inclusive. Discretion is left up to the principal as to

whether or not dress is appropriate.

    by the Administration.

collared shirt/turtleneck underneath. Neckties are not required but are

acceptable. Dress pants are to be worn and may be tan, navy, black, or gray.

Dressy, casual, or tennis shoes are allowed.

    3. Girls are required to wear a dress, skirt, or jumper. Dress shoes or tennis

shoes are allowed. Dresses must touch the floor when the girls are in a

kneeling position and must not be more than 2 inches above the knee. Slits in

the dresses/skirts may not be above the knee. When the temperature is 32

degrees or below, girls may wear appropriate slacks.
