Step 1. Lead in
Students express their opinions about sports stars by using the “key words” and
(Teacher shows students the objectives of this class. Let them know what they will learn today.)
Teacher introduces his favorite sports star to students. Let them master the meanings and words that describe sports star‟s characters. Then teacher uses the
pictures presented by PPT to introduce the theme and asks students whether they know these sports stars and what they think of them.
Step 2. Predict the words
1. Students work in groups and predict the meaning of these key words so as to get ready for the reading exercise (write down the Chinese meaning of each underlined word in class-learning plan Ex.1).
2. Students read these words aloud.
Teacher gives students some sentences that key words are involved and makes them guess the meaning of these words.
Step 3. Fast reading
1. Students read the article quickly, get main ideas of each paragraph and match the headings with each paragraph in class-learning plan Ex.2.
2. Students work in groups to find out a reasonable title for the article in class-learning plan Ex.2
Teacher: How to get main ideas of each paragraph:
Every paragraph has a main idea, which gives us the most important information in the paragraph. Often, this main idea is talked about in the first or second sentence of the paragraph.

(To choose the best title for the article, we should pay much attention to the first paragraph, in which, often, the main idea of the article is talked about.) Step 4. Careful reading
Students read the article again and work in groups to find out the key words for each
paragraph and fill in the table.
Teacher checks the answers.

1. Listening to the pictures (individuals).
2. Pairs work to discuss and work in groups of four. (cooperative learning).
Step 5. Retelling
According to the key words, Students work in groups to retell the text and speak out
what they can learn from the two sisters.
Teacher helps students retell the text.
Grammar: The Present Simple tense and the Present Continuous tense.
1) The Present Simple tense describes:
a) an activity that is repeated regularly .eg. For lunch, I have biscuits and a glass of
b) a present state, feel or opinion .eg. He thinks he is right.
2) The Present Continuous tense describes.
a) an activity that happens now .eg. We are having class now.
b) a present activity that happens regularly, but only during a short period of time.

Step 6. Homework
Students finish „class test‟ and mark the sheet for their partners
