    feeding protocols.

This premium health food is a high antioxidant formula and contains 3 sources of

superior protein ... chicken meal, egg and fish meal plus carrots, apples and more.

There is no corn, wheat, dairy, by-products, artificial colors or flavors in Life's Abundance

Our chicken is from selected high quality chicken meal derived from human-grade

processing plants. Removing the water and moisture provides a more concentrated

    form of protein.

Egg is a complete protein. It is one of the most digestible forms of protein and full of

vitamins A, B, E, K, biotin, sulfur and amino acids...all needed for cell growth.

Fish Meal is high in Omega-3 Fatty Acids, great for the health of your dog’s skin & coat.

Life's Abundance is rich in powerful antioxidants from whole food sources such as

carrots, spinach, celery, garlic, alfalfa leaf and apples.

We've also added grape seed extract, one of the finest and most potent antioxidants

    know today.

Life’s Abundance contains brown rice ... one of the most digestible carbohydrates

supplying your dog with a superior energy source.

Life’s Abundance is nutrient dense with vitamins, minerals, fats and fatty acids essential

for the optimal health of your dog. Our minerals are chelated for maximum absorption.

Life’s Abundance uses Probiotics and beet pulp which promote a healthy digestive tract.

Lactobacillus Acidophilus helps to maintain the delicate balance of friendly

    bacteria in your dog’s intestines.

Beet pulp is a great source of fiber, and unlike many other fiber sources,

produces special components called short chain fatty acids which the good

    bacteria depend upon for food.

Life’s Abundance Premium Health Food for Cats contains only fresh, natural,

wholesome ingredients. It provides 100% complete nutrition in accordance with AAFCO

    feeding protocols.

This premium health food is a high antioxidant formula and contains 5 sources of

superior protein ... chicken meal, egg, chicken liver meal, herring meal and turkey meal.

There is no corn, wheat, dairy, by-products, artificial colors or flavors in Life's

    Abundance.

Chicken Liver Meal is an excellent source of protein and rich in taurine and vitamin A.

Cats need liver because they can't convert beta-carotene from vegetables into vitamin A

    like dogs and humans can.

Herring Meal is high in Omega-3 Fatty Acids, great for the health of your cat’s skin & coat.

Turkey Meal is a very digestible form of protein.

We've also added grape seed extract, one of the finest and most potent antioxidants

    know today.

Life’s Abundance is nutrient dense with vitamins, minerals, fats, fatty acid and taurine

essential for the optimal health of your cat. Our minerals are chelated for maximum

    absorption.

Life’s Abundance uses Probiotics and beet pulp which promote a healthy digestive tract.

Life’s Abundance uses four Probiotics, such as Lactobacillus Acidophilus, which help

    promote a healthy digestive tract.

Chicken meal is not byproducts. They take the whole chicken (as we would

buy it) and remove the moisture....leaving chicken meal. It is very

nourishing and good quality. The chickens that are used are organic, by the

way. Same with Turkey, Fish meal. There are no byproducts of any kind in Life's Abundance.

#1. Chicken, or turkey, or fish for that matter is 65-75% water, including the bone.

Chicken meal, fish meal, turkey meal, is the flesh and skin, with as little bones as the

manufacturer wants ( can't exceed a certain amount ). It is more concentrated source of

protein, since the water is removed. We use the highest quality chicken, fish, turkey,

liver meal available, with very little bone except what we want for the formula. It is all

preserved naturally, while some may not be. They don’t have to tell you that they are

not and you can still say you are natural if YOU didn't add preservatives.

#2. We have grape seed extract which is one of the strongest antioxidants, more so

than e, Beta Carotene or C. It is also a patented one, that has 60 + scientific papers and

    presentations on it alone.

#3. Our plant is APHIS certified by the USDA which means that it can sell to the

European market, which is very particular regarding it's ingredients. Inspectors come to

the plant and place where we get our ingredients, derived from same place we get

ingredients for foods for people. Our chicken meal does not contain steroids or

    hormones.

#4. We have probiotics, 5 of them, which are guaranteed to be alive.

Please understand that you can't select food only by label. Once someone thinks they

have a food they like, feed it for 3 - 6 months and see results. A formula is a puzzle,

where all the pieces have to work together.

As per product, egg product, potato product; there are definitions set by the pet industry,

which we all follow. If we don't we can get our hands slapped ( fines, change labels _.

Innova doesn't choose to do so. There is no definition for potato or for egg. It is only

potato product ( whole or parts of potato including peel ) and whole egg without the

shell. One can look up the definitions of meal and product in the AAFCO hand book, or

type this in the net and go to the web page for definitions. American Association of Feed

    Control Officials.

From Dr. Jane the inventor of Life’s Abundance food.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FOODS

I will generally never compare one food against another. The main reason for that is that when I read the label and or consumer or technical literature I simply do not have enough information to evaluate a food justly. Of course there are foods whose labels will tell me that the food simply does not have a high level of quality nutrition, 100% nutritional or not. Many supermarket brands and some "premium brand foods " simply do not meet the type of quality I feel a dog or cat deserves, based on the label alone. Looking at their labels you can see that their formula generally includes low amounts of protein. These proteins often include large amounts of plant proteins (corn, wheat, gluten) and low amounts of fat. The fat is generally animal fat which is other wise known as tallow. While tallow is a good fat for dogs and cats, it is a hard fat and not as easy to digest and utilize as chicken fat or lard which is generally used in the better foods. When I look at many of the " premium foods" the labels may often read well; as though the food contains high levels of nutrition. The problem with comparing these brands with others as well as my own food is the complexity of food formulation and manufacturing. The label and company handouts simply do not give enough information. This missing information includes but is not limited to the following:

    1. Quality of ingredients.

    2. Information about the formulator, nutritionist, plant personal and the other people involved in the making of a food. What is their philosophy regarding the level of nutrition a dog and or cat requires? What about their integrity? What about their knowledge of food processing, ingredients, and all the complexities involved in food manufacturing?

    3. Place of manufacturing. Are the ingredients held for one week, or for months? Are the ingredients fresh upon arrival? Are they checked when they come in? How are they stored? How clean is the plant?

    4. Manufacturing procedures. Are they consistent in their mixing of ingredients? Is the plant clean? Do they follow a high standard of operation? Are samples kept from one batch to another?

5 .What is the digestibility of the finished product? Digestibility studies can be miss-leading. One often has to feed the food to determine the actual digestibility. 6. What type of fiber is being used and is it appropriate for that formula? Is the amount correct for that formula?

    7. What is the pH off the ingredients, and of the end product?

Keeping in mind all of the above, let me tell you what Life's Abundance has and then you can compare always keeping in mind that the manufacturing and all of above are important in regards to the quality of the food.

    1. Our cat food only has one cereal while our dog food contains two. That is important unless you are looking at a diet food. Cats eat small animals such as mice, and dogs eat small mammals such as rabbits. Have you ever seen a dog or cat eat a stalk of corn?

    2. Our food is considered new generation. Included in the formulation are ingredients that have been scientifically proven to be of benefit to the dog and or cat. Many food companies have not incorporated these ingredients even though products sold for humans have been including them as part of good health for at least a decade. Antioxidants are vitally important to an animals' health. They are known to deter at least 60 degenerative diseases including heart, kidney, joint disease and cancer! We use grape seed extract which is patented. It is called Activin. With over 60 research papers and presentations, this grape seed extract has demonstrated it's strong antioxidant capabilities. It is a better antioxidant than beta carotene, vitamin C and Vitamin E. All grape seed extract are NOT similar. The company that provides us with Activin has undergone FDA safety testing and extracts the nutrients from the seed using water rather than chemicals. We also use whole fruits and vegetables.

    3. Our food does not contain artificial dyes or preservatives. The fats and meals are preserved with natural mixed tochopherols (vitamin E).

    4. Our food is made fresh, approximately every 10 days. It is packaged in costly bags which ensures that is remains fresh.

    5. Our chicken meal does not contain hormones or steroids.

    6. The fish we use in the dog food is farmed cat fish.

    7. Our manufacturing facilities are third generation. The grandfather started the plant, while the son and his sons now work it. That is important because they take pride in what they do. Even more important, they KNOW how to make food. They can feel and see if the ingredients meet their high expectations of quality. Even though all ingredients are tested to be sure that they meet our rigorous high quality, smelling, feeling and looking at them helps to determine their quality. For those of you that cook you know the difference between a fresh high quality oregano or basil versus oregano left on the shelf with over a cover.

The facility is APHIS certified under the USDA. That gives it the right to sell product to Europe, where they are very strict about their pet's food. The inspectors will come into the plant and into the facilities where the ingredients originate to be sure that everything meets the APHIS standards.

    8. The ingredients we use can be found in the supermarket. They come from the same facilities that we get our food stuff from. Note that I don't say the ingredients are for human consumption. The FDA has asked that we do not use that term because at this time there is not a standard definition.

    9. Our carbohydrates are easy to digest. The cat food contains only brown rice, and the dog food potatoes and brown rice.

    10. We have five live friendly bacterial cultures which keep the intestines healthy and the immune organ that is located there. Healthy intestines translate into good nutrient absorption, formed stools, and a good immune system.

    11. We include flax seed meal at a special ratio with other oils for a healthy skin and

coat, nervous system, and immune system. Flax seed meal has tremendous health

    benefits.

    12. We use chicken fat as our main source of fat. It is naturally preserved with mixed tochopherols.

    13. We extrude our food. This method of cooking is similar to pressure cooking a

strew. We do not cook at high temperatures. We cook at about 212 degrees for

approximately 12 seconds, and then dry the food. Note that baked is NOT a

better method of cooking than extrusion. There is nutrient loss in both extruded

and baked products. Cooking involves such complex chemical reactions that it is

impossible to make a statement that one method of cooking is better than

another. The pH of the ingredients, texture, method and type of grinding and

mixing, time of cooking, heat, moisture, oxygen, mineral interactions, vitamin

interactions, carbohydrate reactions with the heat and among other

carbohydrates and ingredients, type of protein, amount of fiber, etc. all determine

the out come of the food. I feel that extrusion is the best method for cooking my

    food.

    14. We have one food for all life stages of puppy or adult dog as well as kitten and adult cat. The calcium phosphorous ratios are the same for puppy and kitten as adult animals. There is no reason for separate foods. That is because our food delivers high quality

moderate amounts of protein for growth and tissue repairs during life. It contains ample calories for the growing animals. (Large breed puppies should be kept thin until at least 2 - 3 years of age). The digestibility is excellent and thus benefits both puppies, kittens as well as seniors. Our antioxidants are essential so the puppy or kitten has a healthy foundation for its life. Obviously they are critical for the aging animal. The bite size is designed to be pleasing to puppies or kittens as well as adults, big or small.
