    1 INTRODUCTION

    1.1 PROMOTION OF ACCESS TO INFORMATION ACT

    The Promotion of Access to Information Act (Act 2 of 2000) has been formulated

    to foster a culture of transparency and accountability in public and private bodies

    by giving effect to the right of access to information as enshrined in the

    Constitution of the Republic of South Africa.

The Act establishes voluntary and mandatory procedures to give effect to the

    constitutional right to information in a manner that enables persons to obtain records of

    public and private bodies as swiftly, inexpensively and effortlessly as possible.

    1.2 arivia.kom IN RELATION TO THE ACT

    The purpose of Ariviakom (Proprietary) Limited, trading as arivia.kom (Registration number 2000/027643/07), is not only to give effect to constitutional rights, but also create

    a culture of openness, transparency and accountability, as well as effective

    administration and good corporate governance.

This is arivia.kom’s first manual in compliance with the Promotion of Access to

    Information Act No 2 of 2000. It forms a composite manual for arivia.kom and its

    subsidiaries (CSIPER Consulting, Computer Foundation, Face Technologies, Intersolve

    Health Informatics and Spartan Computer Rentals). We trust that this manual will assist

    you in requesting information from arivia.kom and its subsidiaries.

    Should you need any help in using this guide please contact “The Manager – Corporate Marketing” (refer to section 3 for contact details).

    2.1 HEAD OF COMPANY AND INFORMATION OFFICER 2.1.1 arivia.kom

    arivia.kom’s Chief Executive Officer, Zeth Malele, is the head of the company and

    therefore in terms of the Act, he is the “Information Officer” for arivia.kom.

    To request information from arivia.kom, please direct it to “The Manager – Corporate Marketing” (refer to section 3 for contact details).

2.1.2 Subsidiaries

    In terms of the Act, the head of each subsidiary is the person responsible and

    accountable for any requests for information for that specific company, and can

    2.2 FUNCTIONS OF arivia.kom

    arivia.kom is an Information Technology (“IT”) solutions delivery giant created by the merger of the IT entities that served, amongst others, three of the largest public

    enterprises in South Africa: Transnet, Eskom and Denel. arivia.kom is a profitable and

    competitive player in the local, regional and global IT market.

    arivia.kom has divided its business into three clear focus divisions: Infrastructure Business, Focused Business Solutions and Niche Markets.

2.5.1 Infrastructure Business Division

The Infrastructure Business provides end-to-end solutions ranging from design and

    infrastructure creation, through to infrastructure management and support. The

    approximately 988 skilled professionals in this division are deployed in three key

    business units:

Within these business units, specific service offering categories include:

Consulting

    This comprises business strategy, requirements analysis and scoping. The key product

    offering is a technical architecture designed to fit the specific customer requirements.

Hardware / systems software provision

    arivia.kom is a vendor of hardware and systems software products as far as it contributes to its infrastructure delivery model. Sourcing, installation and commissioning

    of these products also form part of this offering.

Hosting

    arivia.kom offers customers secure and well-monitored facilities for hosting mission critical business applications across a wide range of platforms large (mainframe),

    medium (e.g. Unix) and small (e.g. NT) environments. These services include design,

    architecture, acquisition and build, as well as management, maintenance and operation

    of these facilities.

Hosting also ensures that clients receive the optimum in secure and monitored

    environments for hosting mission critical applications through the enterprise system

    management and enterprise risk management processes of arivia.kom.

The tailoring of these packaged solutions are based on the customer’s specific

    requirements and criticality of the applications.

Connectivity

    The company provides network services from architectural designs to operations and

    clients have access to a countrywide backbone with constant monitoring, performance

    management, fault handling and troubleshooting.

    arivia.kom’s leading edge Internet services include bandwidth and Internet management, remote access services and security services.

Comprehensive messaging services are also provided covering electronic mail and a

    wide selection of directory services.

Support and Desktop Services

    arivia.kom’s support solutions provide leading edge operation and management of helpdesk and call centre applications. All desktop related services are available

    including supply, support, configuration and monitoring, as well as remote monitoring

    and management. These services are available countrywide in all major centres.

2.5.2 Focused Business Solutions

Focused Business Solutions is able to provide an extensive range of business services.

    These end-to-end solutions range from analysis and conceptual design, through to full

    solution development, training, implementation and post-implementation support.

    Applications are also offered to clients either as a modular form or as a total product.

    This includes business strategy and business requirements analysis, solution definition,

    feasibility analysis and business architecture design.

    and planning, business processes re-engineering, change management, project and

    programme management.

Solution development

    arivia.kom provides a full service offering that includes the required functional and technical specifications, the generation of code as well as appropriate prototyping and

Technical implementation

    This is a core competence for arivia.kom and the service focus for the solutions business. The ability to perform technical integration and interfacing, together with

    solution configuration and commissioning is a core service. The appropriate solution

    maintenance and support also form part of this offering.

Business structuring

    arivia.kom provides the necessary business process design, management of the overall

    implementation, and the execution of the appropriate change management plans.

    Provision of training on the specific solution also forms part of this offering.

Furthermore, Focused Business Solutions specialises in e-business solutions, state-of-

    the-art e-business tools and the vital systems integration that underpins all successful e-

    business solutions. The division is home to a wide range of problem solving skills able

    to analyse a client’s e-business, tailor a cost effective solution and implement it in the

    shortest possible time.

Focused Business Solutions already boasts important sites in transportation, distribution,

    wholesale, banking and financial services. It has formed strong partnerships with

    international companies rated as leaders in their fields and with local companies that

    add value for our clients and ensure a rapid movement from the concept to reality.

The division tracks the latest e-business developments and works closely with

    arivia.kom’s other divisions to offer constant support and a complete outsourcing

    solution across various disciplines including Procurement, HR, and Trading and Billing.
