AS AMY JONES TELLS US…IT'S A DAY THAT WILL MEAN A LOT TO ONE CENTRAL KENTUCKY WIDOW.

MEMORIAL PART 2

    AMY JONES

Emily Dieruf loves thinking about the hugs her husband Nick used to give…

SOT Emily Dieruf: "Those arms just enveloped me, and it was like, nothing could touch us."

A thought she's clung to since Marine Corporal Nick Dieruf died in the line of duty in Iraq nearly 3 years ago…

SOT Dieruf: "There were days when I didn't think I was going to make it out of bed in the morning."

But this week…she takes comfort that his name is one of 580 being added to the walls of Memorial Coliseum…as these lists of Kentuckians killed in the line of

duty are updated for the first time since the end of the Vietnam War

SOT Brigadier General Les Beavers"It's a venue that provides another opportunity to say thank you, thank you for your service, thank you to the families for what they gave up."

So at this Sunday's UK Hoops game…family members of those brave men and

women will take the spotlight to join fans in paying tribute to their loved ones.

SOT Beavers: "They want to share it with the public and anyone who enters the coliseum and realize that their loved one died on behalf of all of us."

SOT (STANDUP) Amy Jones: "On Sunday, January 14th, family members of Kentucky's fallen heroes will sit in these seats at Memorial Coliseum, but they aren't the only ones who will consider it a special night."

SOT Mickie DeMoss: "That's the epitome of commitment and that's something that you believe in... when you put your life on the line…and we can all learn lessons from Kentucky's fallen heroes."

And now Emily knows future generations will remember that commitment as they look at her husband's …and the hundreds of other names.

SOT Dieruf: "It's a location in Kentucky that holds a dear place in my heart and it's an honor to him that his name will be in there."

From the University of Kentucky I'm Amy Jones.
