Applications for admission

IEligibility of Applicants

    Definition of international students: Applicants, who do not have the citizenship of the Republic of China as defined in

    Article 2 of the Nationality Act, do not possess citizenship of Hong Kong, Macau, Mainland China, nor the status of

    overseas Chinese.

    Prerequisite:

    1. For admission to Master’s programs: Bachelor’s degree.

    2. For admission to Ph.D. programs: Master’s degree.

    (E) A copy of diploma of the highest academic degree

    (F) A Chinese or English translation of the diploma and the academic transcript, notarized by ROC

    representative offices abroad

    (G) A health examination report (including AIDS exam result) issued by a hospital

    (H) A financial statement issued by a bank

    (I) Self-addressed envelope for delivery of the notification in June 2006.

     Telephone number and email address must be clearly indicated on the application form.

     Unless otherwise specified, application documents submitted shall not be returned. 2For documents and materials required by specific departments, please refer to the information listed under

     each department.

5. Miscellaneous

    (1) The admission of international students to NTNU is conducted in compliance with Ordinance No.

    0940093125C issued by the Ministry of Education (MOE) on July 13, 2005, subject to any changes that

    may come into effect by the last day of application.

    (2) International students admitted to NTNU shall be revoked of their admission and/or dismissed from

    NTNU if any of the following terms is violated:

     (A) Students who do not possess ROC nationality shall apply for admission to NTNU in the capacity of

    either an overseas Chinese or a foreigner, but NOT in both capacities.

     (B) Students who are ex-ROC citizens shall not apply for admission to an ROC college or university as

    international students within eight years after their ROC nationality is denied.

     (C) International students who are admitted to an ROC college or university but later dismissed by the

    college of university shall not seek admission to another program of study in the same capacity.

     (D) NTNU Students whose study is being suspended shall not apply for admission to the same program of

    study in the same department/institute.

    (3) Students can apply for admission to only one department/institute. Wherever applicable, the applicants

    should take the written tests, interview, and/or technical tests as specified by each department/institute

    concerned. The original copy of passport or other identification(s) should be presented at the test.

    (4) Diplomas and transcripts issued by schools overseas are subject to review in accordance with the Ministry of

    Education’s Code Governing the Review of Overseas Educational Qualifications.

    (5) Students should possess basic skills in Chinese or English. Wherever required by the related

    department/graduate institute, the applicants should take the Chinese language proficiency test and/or take

    additional Chinese courses before being fully admitted.

    (6) Students who have completed the application shall not be any means request to change the department/institute

    and program being applied for, or for a refund of the application fees.

    (7) International students admitted to NTNU shall be revoked of their admission and/or dismissed from NTNU

    if any defect is found in the applicants’ qualifications for application or in the authenticity of the documents

    submitted. Those who have graduated shall have their diploma revoked.

Applications for admission

    VRules governing the admission

    1. The final list of admitted students shall be decided by the Admissions Committee. A number of probationally

    admitted students may be put on the waitlist in case any admitted students fail to complete the registration

    procedure.

    2. The departments/institutes may choose not to admit the students to their full capacity. In this case, no applicant

    will be probationally admitted.

    VIAnnouncement of Admitted Students

    1. Starting from April 21, 2006, the names of admitted students are released by the related departments on dates

    decided by the respective departments. The information is obtainable at:

    2. Admitted students will also receive notification through express registered mail.

    VIIRegistration

    1. Admitted students shall be present at the university for registration on the date specified by presenting the

    original copy of passport, diploma, and the Chinese or English translation of school transcripts authenticated in

    ROC representative offices abroad (for authentication purpose only, will be returned immediately), or the status

    of admission shall be revoked. Those who have not had their documents authenticated by the time of

    application shall present the authenticated documents to the Division of Planning (originally Division of

    Admission), Office of Academic Affairs, within one month after the application result is announced, or the

    status of admission shall be revoked. Those who are not graduated from their preceding schools until August

    2006 shall have the documents reviewed by the Division of Planning (originally Division of Admission),

    Office of Academic Affairs during registration, or the status of admission shall be revoked. 2. Admitted students, may request for deferred registration by one year and, when and if approved, may register

    in the next academic year. These students are subject to the regulations governing the students of the year of

    their actual registration.

    3. When required by the relevant departments/institutes, admitted students shall take the Chinese Proficiency Test

    at the Mandarin Training Center before registration. The test fee is NT$1,000. The website of the Mandarin

    Refer to the remarks in the information of each department for this requirement.

    4. Transfer credits from other colleges/universities shall be governed by related regulations of this University. VIIIMiscellaneous

    For any appeals to the admission procedure, the applicants may submit a written statement to the Division of Planning (originally Division of Admission), Office of Academic Affairs within 15 days after the announcement of the admitted students. Anonymous appeals shall not be processed.
