Description of the equipment for the determination of the adhesion index

    The equipment (ref. ? A-1) consists of:

    - squaring-off device of the type and dimensions shown in Figure 1 (when the sharp edge

    is flattened to 0.1 mm, it has to be rectified).

NOTE :the equipment to be utilized for the squaring-off test can be provided with more blades or threads

    (6/11) separated by a variable distance, and the squaring-off device can be of automatic type.

    For thickness values from 60 to 80 mm, a distance of 1 mm is advisable.

    For thickness values from 81 to 130 mm, a distance of 2 mm is advisable.

    For decorative chromium-plating a distance of 3 mm is advisable.

    Above 130 mm, should the adhesion test by knife shown above be not discriminating, use shall

    PRINCIPLE

    The method is based upon the control of the possible detachment of the trim submitted to cut by means of squaring-off device or dermographic pencil.

2.1

    Procedure

2.1.1

    Carry out the test at a temperature of 23"2 ?C.

2.1.2

    Cut the trimmed surface in a significant zone (flat and visible) of the sample to be tested or painted sheet, exerting a constant pressure on the squaring-off device (ref. ? A-1), so that the cut unG cover the plastic or metal support. In case of particularly hard trims make use of the dermographG ic pencil (ref. ? A-2).

    NOTE : for the determination of the adhesion of trims on plastic materials, the test has to be carried out

    at a temperature of 23"2 ?C, at least 96 h after the polymerization, if not specified otherwise.

2.1.3

    Apply the adhesive tape on the cut surface (ref. ? A-3) .

2.1.4

    Detach the tape from the cut surface manually and rapidly, exerting a force from the bottom upwards.

    Assess the adhesion checking the compliance with what required by the specific Procurement SpecifiG ALIAN EDITION .A. IN CASE OF DISPUTE cation of the product or trim to be tested. TED TO THE THIRD P In this connection, in addition to the expression of the % loss of the adhesion (usually a 10% max. is tolerated. after the aging tests) a value scale exists too; it is shown in the following table (to be used in T AUTO S.P case of a comparative check among more trimmed samples with alternative cycles).
