Revlon Enlists SSA Global Technologies & IBM

To Assist With Asia Pacific Growth Plans

Revlon Upgrades to Enterprise Server i825 and Trebles Current Capacity

SYDNEY, 22 June, 2003 SSA Global Technologies (SSA GT), a leading enterprise

application provider and IBM Premier Business Partner, announced today that Revlon, the

market leader in colour cosmetics in Australasia, has upgraded its IBM eServer iSeries 7xx

server to an i825 with a CPW rating of 3600 serving 200+ users.

The upgrade is part of a long-term plan for Revlon to run their BPCS and other applications

from a centralised regional processor serving Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand

and Taiwan. Revlon Australia will act as the central point for the region due to the expertise of

staff in the Sydney facilities and the importance of the Australasian market.

The upgrade also illustrates Revlon’s commitment to SSA Global Technologies as BPCS has been

chosen as the common ERP system to be rolled out across the region. BPCS is currently used in

Australia, Hong Kong, Japan and New Zealand and will be rolled out to China and Taiwan over

    the next six months.

Revlon has used SSA GT as a hardware and software supplier since 1996 when the organisation

moved to BPCS to take advantage of specific functionality and to address Y2K issues. Prior to

1996 Revlon were users of PRMS, another product that is now in the SSA GT stable.

With the i825 Enterprise Server, the IT department in Revlon have found that day-end batch

processing jobs have in most cases halved in time or generally improved 60-70%. The feedback

from end users of the systems has also been extremely positive for Revlon. Since the upgrade,

users have commented on the enhanced response time of applications, particularly in the sales

    and data analysis area.

John Dimitriadis, Regional Information Technology Director Asia Pacific said, “Revlon has always

used IBM hardware. We were an early adopter of the B60, which had been upgraded by IBM

through a series of processor ranges, now resulting with the i825. Now our upgrade to i825

enables us to run our systems from a centralized regional processor. Our 7xx server didn’t have

the power to do this. The i825 server with its enhanced memory, disks and controller is four

times faster than our 7xx server. The newer disk drive technology helps alleviate our capacity

needs as we needed extra disk for the rollout to the other countries”

He went on to say, “The bonus is that with the i825 there are three active processors and three

dormant processors which allow for extra capacity on demand. This allows us scope to run the

four additional countries on the same server and treble our current capacity.”

Jeremy Goddard, General Manager, SSA Global Technologies said, “Many of SSA GT’s customers

take advantage of SSA GT’s expertise in hardware. Hardware expertise may seem incongruous from a software vendor, but in actual fact, given that we supply the mission critical systems that run businesses, no one else is better qualified to understand the hardware system requirements of applications. We have skilled employees in-house to deliver this expertise and as an IBM Premier Business Partner, are able to offer highly competitive prices to our customers.”

Alison Freeman, iSeries Business Unit Executive, IBM ANZ said, "Used by more than 200,000 customers around the world, IBM eServer iSeries is one of the industry's customer satisfaction leaders, according to IBM surveys. All IBM eServer iSeries models feature IBM's line-up of state-of-the-art e-business software, and high-end models like the i825 that Revlon uses, allow customers to add capacity on the fly, giving customers the flexibility to run almost any technology or application they need, whenever and wherever they need it. The IBM eServer iSeries provides customers more access to the tools necessary to compete in the new world of e-business on demand."

Revlon’s choice of SSA GT and IBM as software and hardware partners was affirmed with the

migration from the 7xx server to the i825 Enterprise server.

“It only took one week to get the new box in using a side-by-side migration. We rolled the box

in on Monday, commissioned engineering, did a system save from the old to new data and the machine was running in one day with no disruption to the business. I anticipate that the server will deliver more than 5 years life for Revlon, which is a good ROI for the business,” concluded Mr Dimitriadis.
