Mimio Workshop Checklist

    Mimio Studio 5 “Hands-on” Checklist

    Beginner- PreK

     Double click on mimio Tools icon be sure you are on the Draw tab

Note: You can use the Compress Window icon in the lower left corner of mimio tools

    to minimize at any time.

MIMIO MOUSE PRACTICE- Internet Explorer

    1. Open Internet Explorer and go to district homepage http://collier.k12.fl.us 2. Click on Students

    3. Click on Students Online

    4. Click on PreK button

    5. Click on Literacy Center

    6. Click on Colors

    7. Use the mimio pen to click on the different color circles (Game 1)

    8. Use the mimio pen to complete Games 2 & 3

    9. Close out all Internet Explorer windows.

MIMIO MOUSE PRACTICE- Shared Folder

    1. Open mimio Tools if necessary.

    2. In the Summerread shared drive (), double click

    on “Down by the bay” folder. See Appendix B on how to access drive. 3. Double click on the Publisher file “Down By The Bay Rhyming Activity.pub” 4. Use the mimio pen to move the pictures off of the whale.

5. Use the mimio pen to move the pictures to match the rhyming pictures.

6. Close the publisher file.

SPOTLIGHT PRACTICE

    1. Open mimio Tools if necessary.

    2. In the Summerread shared drive (), double click

    See Appendix B on how to access drive. on If You Take a Mouse to the Movies” folder.

    3. Double click on the Publisher file Take a Mouse to the Movies Letter cookies.pub 4. The following file will appear:

5. Click on the Spotlight icon and complete the following:

    a. Click on the blue icon next to the red in the upper right corner.

    b. Select circle as the shape, medium as the size and 0% transparency.

    c. Place the cursor on the edge of the circle until you see , then drag it

    inward to make it small enough to feature one cookie. (See example above).

    d. Now, with the stylus pen move the circle around the page to highlight each of

    the six letters. (hint: click and drag in the gray area only)

    e. Click on the red to close Spotlight.

    6. Close the publisher file.

REVEAL PRACTICE

    1. Open mimio Tools if necessary.

    2. In the Summerread shared drive (), double click

    on If You Take a Mouse to School folder. See Appendix B on how to access drive. 3. Double click on the Publisher file Mouse to school poems.pub 4. Drag the mimio Tools to the upper left hand corner.

    5. Click on the Reveal icon and complete the following:

    a. Click on the blue icon next to the red in the upper right corner.

    b. Select 0% transparency.

    c. With the stylus pen click on the Reveal screen and drag it down just below

    the first sentence (see below).

    d. Continue in this manner, moving from sentence to sentence until you have

    e. Click on the red to close Reveal.

SCREEN MARKUP PRACTICE- Shared Folder

    1. Do steps a-c only if you are starting at this point.

    a. Open mimio Tools if necessary.

    b. From the VPK shared drive, open up “If You Take A Mouse To School” folder

    c. Select and open the Publisher file “Mouse to School - poems.pub”

    2. Center story on the screen so that you can see the entire text of the story. 3. Click on Mimio Tools and drag it to the Top-left of screen.

    4. Click on the Screen Markup icon in mimio Tools and complete the following:

    (hint: when you are in the screen markup mode, you are unable to use the mouse)

    a. Under the Draw tab click on the Pencil tool.

    b. Select red line color, skinny width and draw a circle around m in mouse.

    c. Select other colors and widths to draw circles around 4 other letters.

    d. Next, click on the Highlighter tool.

    e. Select green line color, wide width and highlight the word house.

    f. Select other colors and widths to highlight 4 other vocabulary words.

    g. Next, click on the eraser tool and erase the red circle around m and the

    highlighted word house.

    h. Use the Pencil tool with black line color and skinny width to underline the

    first word in one of the sentences and write the number 1 underneath the

    word.

    i. Continue to underline the rest of the words in the sentence, counting the

    words as you continue so that you can count how many words are in the entire

    sentence.

    j. Hint: Ctrl-Z will undo previous action

SCREEN MARKUP PRACTICE- Internet Explorer

    7. Click on Mimio Tools and drag it to the Top-left of screen.

    8. Use the mimio pen to click on the letter E

    9. Click on the Screen Markup icon in mimio Tools and complete the following: (hint:

    when you are in the screen markup mode, you are unable to use the mouse)

    a. Under the Draw tab click on the Highlighter tool. Select red line color

    and medium width.

    b. Highlight the first stroke written in the letter E. (Note: Vocabulary should

    be emphasized with the students that you are writing from top to bottom.

    Students should then write this on their individual dry erase boards.)

    c. Choose a different color and highlight the second stroke written in the letter

    E. (Note: be sure to use directional vocabulary and then have the students

    complete this on their individual dry erase boards.)

    d. Continue to do this by choosing different colors and highlighting the third

    and fourth strokes in the letter E, emphasizing directional words and allowing

    time for the students to complete this on their own dry erase boards.

    11. Exit out of Internet Explorer.

     Appendix A:

If the mimio is not calibrated, press the bottom button on the mimio bar and use the mimio Stylus Pen to

    press the center of each calibration X (there are 9 points in total).

Appendix B:

To access the Summerread shared drive:

    1. On the desktop, double click on My Computer icon

    2. Double click on the Summerread drive

    for mimio XI

Do you want to be able to use the buttons on your new mimio stylus pen? In this new mimio

    Studio 5.14 software version, the “A” button (closest to the tip) can be used as a left click

    (ex: click through a PowerPoint). The “B” button (furthest from the tip) can be used as a

    right click (ex: open up a dialog box) so that you do not need to go back to your computer to

    use your mouse. These are the default settings and can be changed in the mimio Settings in

    the Interactive section.

To upgrade your software:

    1. Turn on your video projector and doc camera and log into your computer.

    2. Unplug the dongle from the CPU.

    3. Double click on the Mimio Studio v5-14 software icon in NAL.

    4. Click Finished when prompted. Note: depending on the current version of mimio already

    installed on your computer, you may have to click Next and Yes until the install finishes.

    5. Plug the dongle back into the CPU.

    6. Calibrate the mimio- the calibration screen may appear automatically as soon as the dongle is plugged

    back in if the mimio is on. If it does not, click on the bottom button of the mimio bar so that the

    calibration screen will appear. Use the mimio Stylus Pen to press the center of each calibration X (there

    are 9 points in total).

    Note: Once you have completed the calibration, you will NOT have to do it again. From this point on, no

    calibrations or other input will be required. You will only need to turn on your equipment and touch the screen

    with the pen to use your mimio. Your mimio will be connected and engaged each time you log into your

    computer.
