    Unit 4 TV programme

    Period One

    Welcome to the unit

    Aims And Demands:

    1. Words: far, broadcast, studio, distance, cartoon, MTV 2. Phrases: far too busy, have nothing to do, send out, on

    radio/TV, perform in films, control a machine

    from a distance, a TV station

    3. Sentence patterns: -- I‟m far too busy to go shopping.

     -- From 9 to 12, I have to watch T V. Then I‟ll

    have lunch and a little sleep between 2 and

    7. After that, it‟s dinner time.

     --A dog‟s work is never done!

    Main And Difficult Points:

    1 To understand vocabulary relating to TV programmes. 2 To think about TV preferences and rate different types of TV programmes.

    Teaching Procedures:

    Step One Leading in

    Go over teenage problems and then lead to TV programmes. Step Two Pre task 1

    1 Cut out some pictures of TV celebrities from newspapers or magazines. If possible, choose celebrities from

    English-language TV programmes. However, they should be well-known faces that students will recognize.

    2 Hold the pictures up one at a time, ask students to name the celebrities or the characters and name the title of the TV programmes that the stars in. As the students get the title correct, write it on the board.

    3 Once students have named all the programme titles, do a popularity survey, ask students what their favourite programme is.

    4 While doing the process above, teach the new words: cartoon and MTV.

    Note: MTV is short for „music television‟. Write the words on

    the board.

    5 Use pictures in multi-media to teach the new words: far, broadcast, studio and distance

Step Three While task 1

    Task 1 Do a survey, i.e., Part B on Page 59.

    Task 2 Match the words with the correct meaning. Step Four: Pre-task 1

    Tell your classmates what your favourite TV programme is. Step Five Pre task 2

    Overview of the unit: The main topic of this unit is TV programmes. You will learn to talk about TV schedules, discuss preferences in TV programmes, and write about your ideal TV programme.

    Step Six While task 2

    1 Questions: What does Hobo want to do?

     What is Eddie‟s plan?

    2 listen to the recording ,then answer the questions above. 3.read after the tape

    4.role-play in groups.

    Step Seven: Post-task 2

    Language points:

    1)far too busy,

    e.g Im far too busy to go any further

    2)have nothing to do,

    e.g The poor man has nothing to do every day

3)send out,

    e.g Some students like to send out messages by using mobile phones

    4)on radio/TV,

    e.g We can watch many interesting programmes on TV 5)perform in films,
