    Updating the Java version on a CRIS PC

Updating Java on a CRIS PC will normally require you to log on to the PC as a system

    administrator.

    For GE PACS Workstations this is normally user ITUser.

    It is not required that you uninstall the Java currently installed on the PC during this procedure.

1.1.1 Steps Required to Update Java

1) Obtain the Java Update executable

    2) Uninstall CRIS

    3) Install the Java update.

    4) Reinstall CRIS 1.1.2 Instruction Detail

    1) On a PC with access to the internet, obtain the Java (JRE) 5 Update 11 (Java version

    1.5.0_11) jre-1_5_0_11-windows-i586-p.exe

Choose your platform (which would normally be Windows in the NHS)

Select the checkbox which says that you agree to the Software License Agreement

Select the checkbox named “Windows Offline Installation” followed by clicking the large

    Orange Button stating “Download Selected with Sun Download Manager”.

Save this to a location that can be executed on the required PC and also copied to other PC's

    requiring this update, as PACS workstations do not usually have internet access.

    Suggest that this is saved to a form of removable media such as a USB Flash Drive or CD in

    order to enable running the installation without requiring a network connection.

2) On the workstation, Uninstall CRIS Using webstart by following the instructions

    below:

    Shut down any running copies of CRIS;

    o From the PC Start Menu (screen shot below) select Run.

Type „javaws‟ and press OK

PLEASE NOTE:-

    This will start the Java Web Start "Java

    Application Cache Viewer"

    This where you need to remove each of the CRIS applications listed one by one by selecting the relevant icon/button.

    Shut down the "Java Application Cache Viewer"

3) Install the Java Update

    Install Java (JRE) 5 Update 11 (Java version 1.5.0_11) by executing jre-1_5_0_11-windows-i586-p.exe and following the on screen

    instructions.

    Make sure that Java Automatic Updates are turned off. Select the Edit / Preferences menu option in Java Web Start and use the adjacent page to de-select the Check for Updates

    Automatically.

4) Re-install CRIS using the standard CRIS install procedure.

    5) Exam Manager

If the diagnostic workstation is running exam manager the following will need to be done:

    1) Close down any Internet Explorer window 2) Go to C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_XX\lib\security and open the java.policy file in

    wordpad.

    3) at the top of the file enter the following lines grant {

     permission java.security.AllPermission; };

    4) Save and close.
