     Important Information for New Home Builders

    ? Applying for Service You may contact us for service by telephone, fax, e-mail or in person. When applying it

    is extremely important for you to use the SAME name each time you contact us. You will need to provide a

    copy of your driver’s license and social security card. It is mandatory for you to give your correct 911 address.

    The application for service must be made, all information turned in, fees paid, and inspections passed BEFORE

    construction can begin.

    ? SVEC Engineer A qualified and trained SVEC engineer will come out to your site and spot a pole for

    temporary service, if needed. If you are required to pay a service charge to get power to your property, the

    engineer will calculate that charge and let you know the fee and your options. It is important to tell him if you are

    interested in an outside security light at this time.

    ? Septic Permit A septic permit is required for all new homes that are not on a city sewer system. Permits may

    be obtained at your local health department. Normal permits cost $200.00. For your convenience telephone

? Building Permit A building permit is necessary in the City of Dunlap and all of Marion County (except the

    City of Orme). Building permits may be obtained at your city or county building inspector’s office. The cost of

    the permit depends on the size of the house. For your convenience the telephone numbers are as follows:

    Town of Jasper 942-3180 City of Whitwell 658-5151

    Town of Crossroads 658-6582

    For all others: Marion County 942-8019

? State of Tennessee Electrical inspection* - permits are required for all electrical installations. Permits should be

    purchased at your local SVEC office before the job begins. You will need to know your electrian’s name and

    State Registration number, the size (amps) of service being installed and if you intend to go overhead or

    underground with your electrical service. The average house will need an inspection of the following:

    200 Amp 400 Amp

    1. Temporary $27.00 $27.00

    2. Rough-in $27.00 $27.00

    3. HVAC (heat & air) $27.00 $27.00

    4. Final $27.00 $40.00

    5. All re-inspections $27.00 $27.00

    Permits are good for 2 years from the time of purchase. An inspection visit must be requested with a 24 hour

    notice. SVEC will add $5.00 handling fee to the permit price. Sites must be accessible to the inspector. If the

    inspector can’t gain access to the location, it will result in the rejection of the inspection and another inspection

    permit must be purchased. Any rejection does require the purchase of another permit. Inspections are made by the

    following schedules:

     Marion County Tuesday& Thursday Grundy County Tuesday & Thursday

     Sequatchie County Wednesday Bledsoe County - Wednesday

? Meter Base SVEC will furnish the meter base. You may pick it up when purchasing your inspection permits.

    ? Rebates May be Available Be sure you ask about SVEC energy right rebates for new construction. A Basic

    Home Guidelines brochure is also available upon request.

    ? Positioning of Home the manufactured home must be on the lot and in position before the SVEC engineer

    comes to “spot” the location of the pole. If you are interested in an outdoor security light, please inform the

    engineer at the time of his visit.

    ? Service Charges Any charges will be determined after the SVEC engineer has mapped the location and spotted

    the pole location. The minimum charge is $50.00

    ? Wiring Diagrams Available from SVEC at no charge.

    ? Meter Base May be purchased at any SVEC office. The prices listed below include tax.
