     PLEASE READ: NEW SCREENING POLICY

Cancer Detection Programs (CDP): Every Woman Counts (EWC)

Mammograms and clinical breast exams provided at the free screenings are paid for by the Cancer Detection Programs: Every Woman Counts for women

age 50 and older who qualify. This program is funded by the Cancer Detection Section of the California Department of Public Health.

Breast cancer screening services provided by CDP: EWC will change beginning January 1, 2010 as follows:

    1. CDP: EWC will pay for digital mammography at the film (analog) mammography rates.

    2. CDP: EWC will stop paying for breast cancer screening for women under 50. A woman in the age range of 40-49, who receives an abnormal result from

a screening provided before January 1, 2010 will receive services until she has a final diagnosis and she is referred for treatment, if needed.

    3. From January 1, 2010 to June 30, 2010, CDP: EWC will stop enrolling new women for breast cancer screening. Women, age 50 and over, who have

never been enrolled in the program must wait until July 1, 2010 to enroll.

Women can also call toll-free (800) 511-2300, Monday Friday, 8:30 a.m. 5 p.m. to see if they qualify for free breast and cervical cancer screening exams.

Operators speak English, Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Korean and Vietnamese.
