The following is a synopsis of the companies now represented by
the Atomic Trades and Labor Council.
B&W Technical Services Y-12, LLC.
The Y-12 National Security Complex is a premier manufacturing complex operated by BWXT Y-12 for the National Security Administration, (NNSA). Y-12 plays a vital role in the Department of Energy’s Nuclear Weapons Complex. Y-12 has approximately a total of approximately 4500 employees with 1425 hourly employees represented by the Atomic Trades and Labor Council (ATLC).
Oak Ridge National Laboratory is a multiprogram science and technology laboratory managed by UT-Battelle for the Department of Energy. ORNL has approximately 4200 employees with 734 represented by the ATLC.
Bechtel Jacobs Company, LLC.
BJC is the environmental management contractor for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge Office. It is on an accelerated schedule to complete cleanup in Oak Ridge. BJC is responsible for environmental cleanup and waste management. BJC has approximately 665 employees with 20 represented by the ATLC.
Environmental Management Waste Management Facility (EMWMF)
EMWMF is a facility which disposed of CERCLA waste from cleanup of the Oak Ridge Reservation. This RCRA-compliant disposal cell is the cornerstone of the Oak Ridge clean-up program. EMWMF has approximately 35 employees with 12 represented by the ATLC. It is managed by Bechtel Jacobs Company, LLC.
URS Washington Division
Washington Group manages the liquid waste facility for BWXT Y-12. The facility processed and disposes of all legacy and newly generated liquid waste at the Y-12 National Security Complex. This facility has 58 employees with 33 represented by the ATLC.
Energy Solutions provides support to the Department of Energy at ORNL and Y-12 National Security Complex for Waste Management and Sanitary Landfills. They have 12 employees with 12 represented by the ATLC.
Liquid and Gaseous Waste Treatment Operations
Energy Solutions provides a collection, treatment, storage and disposal of all liquid and gaseous radioactive wastes generated by ongoing and past activities at ORNL. It also supports other firms conducting ER work on the reservation by processing contaminated liquid waste for their operations. The facility has 68 employees with 42 represented by the ATLC.
Y-12 Sanitary Construction/Demolition Debris Landfills
Energy Solutions operates two sanitary/construction demolition debris landfills. They are responsible for post-closure maintenance of one landfill and periodic operation of a classified waste landfill. They are also responsible for the closure of a complete Class IV facility. This facility has 38 employees with 22 employees represented by the ATLC.
Isotek is a division of Energy Solutions. They have a contract with the Department of Energy to produce isotope’s to ensure there is an adequate supply of medical isotopes, recover and recycle radioactive sources for safeguards and security and perform research.
Wesken has a contract with EnergyX to dispose of radioactive, hazardous and mixed waste from the Oak Ridge reservation. Since 2000, Weskem has shipped over 30 million kilograms of waste from three Oak Ridge sites to government and commercial treatment and/or disposal facilities. Weskem has 66 employees with 12 represented by the ATLC.
Bionetics Bionetics operates the Mouse Genetics Research Facility at ORNL. The facility
was opened in January of 2004 and is a research facility which radiation and chemical research on a large collection of mice. Bionetics has 13 employees with 8 represented by the ATLC.
Buddy’s operates the Café at ORNL with the main facility in the Conference Center Building (Building 5200) and Satellite canteens located in Building 7910 (HFIR) and Spallation Neutron Site. They have approximately 18 represented employees.
Lawler-Wood Y-12, LLC.
Lawler-Wood manages the New Hope and Jack Case office buildings at Y-12. Lawler-Wood has 30 employees and 25 employees represented by the ATLC.
Oliver’s manages the Cafateria at BWXT Y-12 with the main facility in the
Jack Case Center and a Satellite canteen in 9113 and New Hope Center. They have approximately 10 represented Employees.
