Cru and COP Music Team Auditions

    Cru Music Team Auditions

Thank you for your interest in serving God on a worship team for Cru! On the following pages we have enclosed everything you would need to do and know before auditioning. You will find an expectation sheet - because disappointment comes from unmet expectations we want you to know what you are walking into. Then you’ll see an application – we do these because

your role as a worship leader is based on more than talent, but also character. Following that is 6 worship songs with the chords. The auditions will last for approx. 10 minutes and you will choose 2 of these songs to play/sing with current members of the Cru band and probably one other person auditioning. You must agree on one slow song and one fast as mentioned in the initial email. Please arrive for your audition 10 minutes early and have your instruments tuned/ warmed up/ etc. A drum set and keyboard will be provided. We look forward to seeing you all on audition day!

Expectations for CRU Music Team Members

“…I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.”

    --Eph 4:1

THANK YOU for being willing to use your gifts to serve the Lord! We want you to consider the

decision to serve on Cru Music Team. The following are a list of expectations that we, the staff team,

along with the music team leadership, have come up with to help the team serve our movement with

    excellence and effectiveness.

Spiritual Leadership

This is a leadership role. You will be up front every week, and people will begin to see you as a

leader in our movement. Therefore, you will need to live as a leader. We are asking you to pursue

holiness and personal purity, and to be very careful to watch how you speak and act outside of this role as

well (in Bible study, at socials, with friends, among non-Christians, etc.)

Commitment to God

As a leader you are expected to put your walk with the Lord first. It is a REQUIREMENT that you

attend a Cru Bible study on a WEEKLY basis because this is an integral part of spiritual growth. If you

are late or missing Bible studies without notifying your leader in advance this is grounds for removal from

    the music team.

Being a Team Player

The Music team is, by name, a TEAM. Being a team player is one trait that we look for in selecting

the team because it is crucial to its success. Here are a few specific things to keep in mind:

? It is an honor and a privilege to be on the music team. If it becomes tempting to see it as a burden

(which it undoubtedly will at times), please remember this and ask the Lord to give you a right attitude

towards the role He has called you to.

? Spiritual leadership is servant leadership…there will be times when you will need to make

sacrifices, times when practice seems more like work than fun. Remember that the Lord has called us

    to serve.

? There will be a team leader. As the application states, you must be willing to submit to his/her

leadership. If you have a problem with the leadership you are responsible to take it to the leader in

private. Failure to work with the team and leader are grounds for removal from the team.

? Be willing to be focused and attentive at practice.

? Let’s face it…college life gets hard at times. You may have times when you are loaded down with

burdens. It is your responsibility to cast them on Christ, leave them at the door, and come to

    practice/Cru/CoP with a positive attitude.

Commitment to Practice

Obviously, practice is crucial for this team to reach its (very high) potential. Practices will be

mandatory. If you are late or missing practices without notifying the team leader in advance this is

grounds for removal from the team. You may only miss 2 of these practices a semester, and the team

leader must be notified the week in advance. Practice is a high priority. It is your responsibility to

manage your time so that you can be at practice.

Thursday nights

Currently the music team arrives at Cru around 6:00pm (2hr early) each week to warm up, set up stage

and practice for the evening of worship. At this time the schedule remains the same. The ONLY reason to

miss Thursday night is a test DURING Cru or to attend a vital family event (wedding or funeral).

Campus Crusade for Christ Music Team Application

    Spring 2009-Fall2009

Name: ________________________Phone: ______________E-mail: ______________________ Year in School:__________

Will you be in Blacksburg for the next two semesters? Y N (explain)

1. Who is your Bible study leader?

All music team members are required to be regularly involved in a Campus Crusade small group Bible study.

If you are not presently in one, will you join one this semester? (Ask a staff member for guidance or an explanation if

    needed).

2. Please briefly share how you came to know Christ personally, and any other significant events in your spiritual

    life.

3. Please give some background on your experience level, musical talent and the instrument(s) that you play:

4. Tell a little about your heart for worship and why you believe God is calling you to be a part of the music team:

    5. What are two of your greatest strengths? Two of your weaknesses? (not having anything to do with music)

    6. How would you define worship and why should we worship?

    7. Humility is a large part of the Christian life. What does it mean to be humble?

You are applying for a very visible leadership position. It is crucial that the team members demonstrate a life of personal

purity so as not to compromise the integrity of the music team or our movement (i.e., refraining from alcohol abuse, sexual

immorality, drug use, etc.). If you have struggled in any of these or other areas of purity, please talk to a staff member. We

will keep this confidential, but also reserve the right to ask about these areas of your life.

In addition, this is a TEAM, and we are looking for “team players” who are willing to submit to the team’s leader(s), work

hard in practice, learn from others, and abide by the policies laid out for the music team. Being a part of this team WILL

stretch you spiritually and sometimes emotionally.

I am willing to pursue personal purity and refrain from anything that would compromise the integrity of my Christian

witness, the music team, or Campus Crusade for Christ. I am also willing to submit to the authority of music team

leadership and the staff team, as well as be a team player.

    Signed: ________________________________________________
