A SPECIAL BENEFIT PERFORMANCE

“I DO! I DO!”

Book and Lyrics by Tom Jones

    Music by Harvey Schmidt

Based on “The Fourposter” by Jan de Hartog

Produced by special arrangement with Music Theatre International

September 23, 24, 25, 2005

Michael and Agnes are revealed on their wedding day around 1880. As they sing about their nervousness on their wedding night, they finally arrive at a comfort level and soon drift off to sleep. As time goes on, Agnes becomes pregnant twice and gives birth to a son and a daughter. Slowly the marriage begins to unravel as Agnes concentrates on being a mother and Michael concentrates on his writing career. Soon Michael‟s success goes to his head and he has an extramarital affair, which almost destroys their marriage, but they overcome this trauma and realize that they really love each other more than anything as they sing “My Cup Runneth Over.” The children leave home and get married,

and leave Michael and Agnes with an empty nest, and Agnes begins to doubt the meaning of her life as she sings “What Is a Woman?” But Michael cheers her up with silly but meaningful gifts, and they celebrate their longevity through thick and thin. Slowly Michael and Agnes walk to their dressing tables on opposite sides of the stage, changing their make-up and costumes to indicate the passage of time to 50 years from the day of their wedding, and they walk back into their bedroom on the day they are leaving the house and furniture, including their fourposter bed, since they have sold it to a younger couple. As they are leaving the room where they have lived a lifetime, Michael suddenly sweeps up Agnes in his arms to carry her across the threshold as he did 50 years ago, both of them laughing uncontrollably as the curtain falls.

„EVERYBODY LOVES OPAL”

By John Patrick

Produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.

October 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, 23, 2005

Opal Kronkie, a middle-aged recluse, lives in a tumbledown mansion at the edge of the municipal dump. The general disarray of her establishment is aggravated by the fact that Opal collects thingsanything that can be toted home in her little red wagon. Opal is

also an optimist, for no matter how mean her lotor her "friends" Opal responds with

unfailing kindness and an abiding faith in the goodness of human nature. Into her rather strange world comes Gloria, Bradford and Solomon, three purveyors of bogus perfume

on the lam from the authorities. Opal's menage is the perfect hideoutand Opal, herself,

might be the remedy for their shattered finances. They decide that what she needs is

plenty of insurance, a rapid demise, and three beneficiaries named Gloria, Bradford and Solomon. Attempted murder wouldn't seem to be funny, but in Mr. Patrick's magic hands it is uproarious. The unsavory trio concoct an elaborate scheme to drop the ceiling on Opal's unsuspecting headbut she is in the cellar at the time; they try to drug her and set

    the house on firebut Opal's state trooper friend arrives at the wrong (or right) moment;

a plan for a "hit and run" accident backfires. Through it all, Opal radiates kindness, affection and, strangely enough, gratitude. But the real clincher comes at the end. It seems that there was plenty of money around all the time; bags, barrels, and mooseheads full of it, in fact, and any friend of Opal's is welcome to as much as he wants. All they had to do was ask.

“DAD‟S CHRISTMAS MIRACLE”

By Pat Cook

Produced by special arrangement with the Dramatic Publishing Company

December 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, 18, 2005

Connor Murphy wants a go-cart for Christmas in the worst way. And that's how he sets

out to get it. Miss McLaughlin, his teacher, really gums up the works by handing out

report cards just before vacation. "This is a socks and underwear card if ever there was one," his best friend Neil tells him, blighting his hopes. His other best friend, Tater, is no help either since he is busy learning his one-word speech for the Christmas Pageant. His brother and sister are stirring up the household as the holiday approaches. In his mind, Connor sees everyone ganged up against him like a Greek chorus. He even pictures Dad

reciting a theme paper entitled "What I Got for Christmas." And, of course, it's up to Dad to perform the impossible by Christmas morning. Hysterical situations abound in this

loving memory of Yuletide charm back when if you had a dollar it was more money than

you knew what to do with; if you had an hour to play, it seemed forever, and the best

time in the whole world had to be Christmas.

„TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD”

By Christopher Sergel

From the book by Harper Lee

Produced by special arrangement with the Dramatic Publishing Company

January 27, 28, 29, February 3, 4, 5, 2006

Scout, a young girl in a quiet southern town, is about to experience dramatic events that will affect the rest of her life. She and brother Jem are being raised by their widower father Atticus and by a strong-minded housekeeper Calpurnia. Wide-eyed Scout is

fascinated with the sensitively revealed people of her small town but, from the start, there's a rumble of thunder just under the calm surface of the life here. The black people of the community have a special feeling about Scout's father and she doesn't know why. A few of her white friends are inexplicably hostile and Scout doesn't understand this

either. Unpleasant things are shouted and the bewildered girl turns to her father. Atticus, a lawyer, explains that he's defending a young Negro wrongfully accused of a grave

crime. Since this is causing such an upset, Scout wants to know why he's doing it.

"Because if I didn't," her father replies, "I couldn't hold my head up." When she asks why take on such a hopeless fightthe time of the play is 1935he tells her, "Simply

because we were licked a hundred years before we started is no reason not to try." He

goes on to prepare Scout for the trouble to come. "We're fighting our friends. But

remember this, no matter how bitter things get, they're still our friends." Things do get bitterto the point where Atticus props himself in a chair against the cell door of the

man he's defending and confronts an angry mob. Horrified Scout projects herself into this confrontation and her inconvenient presence helps bring back a little sanity. Atticus fights his legal battle with a result that is part defeat, part triumph. As Atticus comes out of the courthouse, the deeply moved town minister tells Scout, "Stand up. Your father's

passing!" This play is a meaningful work of art.

“CATS”

Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber

Based on “Old Possum‟s Book of Practical Cats” by T.S. Eliot

Produced by special arrangement with R & H Theatricals

March 24, 25, 26, 31, April 1, 2, 2006

“Cats” is a gathering of the Jellicle Tribe, a great family of felines who follow the

Mystical Divinity of Felinity. Their mission is to find the source of true happiness for all. The Jellicles gather one night a year for the Jellicle Ball to celebrate the tribe‟s traditions. With guidance from the wise Old Deuteronomy, they dance, celebrate the Mystical

Divinity and choose a cat to arise to the Heavyside Layer for rebirth in the next of Nine Lives in the tribe‟s generations. As they gather in an abandoned theatre, home to aging Gus the Theatre Cat, they use old scenery and props to tell their stories, recall tribal memory and consider who among them should be their Jellicle choice for rebirth. Finally, Old Deuteronomy leads Grizabella, the Glamour Cat, the chosen and honored cat, up, up, up to rebirth in the Heavyside Layer, restoring her Nine Lives, reminding us to respect all catseven lonely stray outsiders like Grizabella.
